Founded in 1999, Bunny Lu is a 501(C)3 registered non-profit rabbit rescue. We typically take in 150-200 buns a year and find them indoor homes where they will be loved and cared for, for the rest of their lives. At any time, there are 50-60 rabbits under Bunny Lu’s care. We take rabbits in when local (and sometimes not so local) shelters are full or have rabbits with medical or behavioral issues. We prioritize taking in at-risk rabbits from shelters, but do also accept owner surrenders on a limited, case-by-case basis and accept rabbits that are in a life-threatening situation.
Bunny Lu provides bunny-sitting service so their humans can vacation without worry that your rabbits are being properly cared for. Bun-sitters relax in a large pen (4’x6’ minimum) with furniture to enjoy. All bunnies get pellets and veggies twice a day, along with fresh hay & water…just like all the bunnies in the rescue. Bunny sitting is available at select foster homes in VA. Please call or text to reserve space.
Bunny supplies, such as Orchard/Timothy hay, Mazuri pellets, Selective Naturals treats, papaya, bunny furniture and much more are available at select foster homes in VA! We rely on the sale of supplies, bun sitting, and donations to provide a roof over their heads, food in their tummies, and medical care. Please contact us to schedule supply pickup.

Please remember…you can visit the bunnies anytime, just fill out an adoption application and contact us to schedule your visit!
Because of the influx of rabbits that have been abandoned outdoors to fend for themselves this year and slow adoption numbers during the summer months, we are in need of foster homes to provide housing, and sometimes socialization, for buns while they wait for a spot at the rescue to open up for them. Foster homes must be able to make a firm commitment to foster for at least 4 months. It’s possible it won’t be that long if space opens up at the rescue, or it could be longer depending on adoption numbers.
Most of our more adoptable rabbits reside at the rescue so that potential adopters can view everyone at one time which gives all the rabbits the best opportunity to find their forever home especially for bonding. In order to give them the best chance at being adopted later, foster homes will primarily be given rabbits that need to work on their socialization skills.
